Convert dates between the Islamic Hijri calendar and the Gregorian calendar. Type a date on either side — the other updates instantly.
The Hijri calendar (also called the Islamic or Lunar calendar) is a lunar calendar used by Muslims worldwide to determine religious holidays, including Ramadan and the Hajj pilgrimage. It began in 622 CE, marking the year of the Hijra — the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina.
A Hijri year contains 12 lunar months and is approximately 354 days long — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar year. This is why Islamic holidays move earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year.

Type a date on either side — Hijri or Gregorian — and the other side updates automatically. Both fields are connected, so you can convert in either direction without clicking anything else.
This converter uses the standard Umm al-Qura calendar algorithm used in Saudi Arabia and most Muslim countries. Note that some local sightings of the moon may differ from the calculated date by 1 day.
Because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, Islamic months move earlier in the Western calendar each year, completing a full cycle approximately every 33 years.
AH stands for Anno Hegirae (Latin for "in the year of the Hijra"). CE stands for "Common Era" — equivalent to AD in the Gregorian calendar. Year 1 AH corresponds to 622 CE.
